Conclusion

John - I've always known HAIM as being a chill-sounding, summery, indie rock band who have a knack for creating catchy choruses and hooks that you can't get out of your head for days. Unfortunately, this album doesn't really showcase much of that.. Not as much as I would like anyway. There is a line between having a chill sound and being utterly boring, and that line was crossed several times on Something To Tell You.

Want You Back was one of the few high points - it encaptured the sound that I've always known them for perfectly and was a perfect choice for a single. Otherwise the majority of the rest of the album felt a bit.. Dreary. HAIM obviously like writing about heartache and heartbreak, we've always known that, and they go about their writing in clever and often pretty ways, but I felt even the lyrics let the record down in places.

I'm disappointed in this album on first listen, but the positives here are that it still yields the potential to be a great record through headphones, and it makes for excellent driving music, with the windows down, on a summer day. Apart from that though, there's not a large amount to write home about.

Overall Score - 2/5

Tilly - HAIM are the definition of a 'cool' band. Their sound completely embodies fresh air, driving around with the windows rolled down, and of course, sisterhood. Something To Tell You unfortunately didn't capture this quite as much as I thought (and hoped) that it would. Want You Back and Little Of Your Love are the only tracks that I remember feeling that way about. The rest, unless I have already forgotten them (which given the one dimensional sound mostly showcased throughout the duration is entirely plausible), were dull, albeit atmospheric. The only reason I didn't slate most of the songs is because they always had at least one redeeming quality. Whether that be Danielle's vocals, Este's individuality or Alana's addition to the harmonies, there was always something. Something To Tell You is a cohesive, chill and solid record, but maybe they should have tried to create an album that was a little more exciting.

Overall Score - 3/5

For Fans Of - London Grammar, Alanis Morissette, Sheryl Crow, The Beautiful South and Fleetwood Mac.

Last Young Renegade - All Time Low

All Time Low are one of the biggest and most well known rock bands around at the moment. Back with their seventh studio album, Last Young Renegade, they are the subject of our latest review! The band from Baltimore, MA have long been at the forefront of pop-rock, along with the likes of Paramore, Fall Out Boy, and Panic! At The Disco - although out of those, All Time Low have definitely been the most consistent with their sound. Pairing catchy choruses with well-written and at times satirical lyrics, along with instrumentals that you'll be humming along to for days, is what these guys do best. But is their well-worn recipe still fresh? Find out here, as we review their latest efforts. A slight departure from our usual reviewing now - we are about to delve into the world of noise music. Genre icon Aaron Dilloway released his new album last month and it's been well-received by most of the experimental music community.
